Greek tenor saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos and pianist Paul Edis bring their project Feels Like Home to Cadogan Hall as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
The performance takes place in the Culford Room at Cadogan Hall and is presented as a lunchtime concert. The project centres on the idea of “home” and the different places that have shaped the lives and musical identities of the two musicians.
Vasilis Xenopoulos graduated with honours from Berklee College of Music before making London his permanent base. In 2009 he formed The Xtet, releasing Loud City in 2011 and The Wind Machine in 2013.
He later formed XPQ with guitarist Nigel Price. Their recordings include Sidekicks, which explored historic saxophone-and-guitar partnerships in jazz, and Dexterity, released in 2019.
Xenopoulos also co-leads the bop ensemble Five-Way Split, which has been nominated at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. The group released All the Way in 2023 and later Modus Operandi. Alongside his performances in the UK, Xenopoulos maintains strong musical links with Greece and Cyprus and also teaches saxophone and improvisation.
His partnership with Paul Edis is one of his longest-running collaborations. The two musicians met around twenty years ago when they were both studying in West London — Xenopoulos having arrived from Berklee and Edis from the north-east of England.
Their first collaborative album, A Narrow Escape, was released in 2016. This was followed by Feels Like Home on the Ubuntu label in April 2024. The compositions on the album are inspired by the different places each musician has called home.
For the Cadogan Hall performance, Xenopoulos and Edis are joined by Mirko Scarcia on double bass and Billy Pod on drums, completing the quartet.
