A North London Greek weekend sounds like a contradiction only if you have never lived north of the river. Palmers Green, Barnet, Muswell Hill and Islington are where much of the Greek and Cypriot community lives, and from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October 2026 the area is unusually busy: a textile show at Alexandra Palace, a Greek music night in Muswell Hill, Tamta in Hoxton, free walks, a beer festival and poetry in Hampstead. We picked the best from the weekend round up by Londonist and Secret London, added the Greek events from our own calendar, and next to each stop we point you to the nearest Greek bakery, salon or dentist.
Most guides send you to the West End. For many of us the real weekend happens between Green Lanes and High Barnet, and this week you do not need to cross the city for culture. Everything below is on the Piccadilly, Northern or Victoria line or the Overground, most of it is free or under 20 pounds, and the Greek List members we mark along the way mean your North London Greek weekend supports local Greek businesses too.

The Knitting and Stitching Show fills Ally Pally for four days with hundreds of stalls selling yarn, fabric and sewing kit, plus textile galleries showing what people actually make with it all. Even if you have never held a needle, the building and the view over the city from the terrace are worth the trip on a crisp October afternoon. Tickets are on the show’s own site and weekend slots do sell out.
Getting there: Alexandra Palace station (Great Northern from Finsbury Park), then a 10 minute uphill walk, or the W3 bus from Wood Green.
Greek stop nearby: Borneo Cafe Bakery on Green Lanes, Palmers Green, N13. A Greek Cypriot bakery open from 6am, one bus ride from Ally Pally, for tyropita, koulouri and a freddo on the way up.

The most Greek thing you can do in London on Friday night. Amalgama play traditional music from Asia Minor, Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus and the islands, with violinist Michalis Iskas, in a proper North London pub. Doors 7.45pm, music 8.30pm, homemade Greek food on the menu and ouzo, zivania and Greek wine at the bar. Tickets are 15 pounds in advance or 20 on the door if any are left, and tables are first come first served, so book through the event page on Greek List.
Getting there: East Finchley on the Northern line, then a short walk along Fortis Green. The 102 bus stops almost outside.

If your North London Greek weekend needs pop instead of clarino, Tamta plays Colours Hoxton on Friday, a year after she sold out the same room. Doors 8pm, 18 plus, tickets 38.50 pounds, support from HEZEN, and a full production with choreography and possibly new album songs. Details on the Tamta event page. On Saturday the same part of town hosts Local London Guiding Day, with free guided walks from 10am to 4pm around King’s Cross, Old Street, Finsbury and Hoxton on the theme of how London keeps reinventing itself.
Getting there: Colours Hoxton is on Hoxton Square, five minutes from Old Street or Hoxton Overground. Walk start points are on the Guiding Day website.
Greek stop nearby: Athena Salons on Essex Road, Islington, N1. A Greek run hair and nail salon, open until 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday. Book a blow dry before Tamta and arrive looking like you flew in from Glyfada.

Ten breweries and taprooms along Blackhorse Lane join forces on Saturday from midday for Harvestfest, a free autumn festival with country themed entertainment, live music and a lot of fresh beer; only the evening party at Signature Brew is ticketed. With children, head instead to the William Morris Gallery on Forest Road for a free family day from 1pm to 4pm, where kids design front doors and screen print posters. Walthamstow is not Green Lanes, but it is ten minutes from Seven Sisters on the Victoria line.
Getting there: Blackhorse Road on the Victoria line for the beer mile; Walthamstow Central and the 123 bus for the gallery.

Barnet gets a quieter but very good Thursday. At Artsdepot in North Finchley, Ockham’s Razor perform Physical Circus at 7.30pm, an intimate two person circus piece about trust and collaboration. At 12pm the RAF Museum in Hendon hosts a free lecture on Fighter Command’s wartime infrared experiments, with a livestream if you cannot get there.
Getting there: Artsdepot is at Tally Ho Corner, a short walk from Woodside Park on the Northern line. The RAF Museum is next to Colindale station.
Greek stop nearby: Source of Life Bakehouse on East Barnet Road, EN4. A Greek bakehouse open from 6am with bread, pies and sweets baked on site. And if the weekend reminds you that you have been putting off the dentist, Dr George Papadakis at Armonia Dental on Church Passage in Chipping Barnet is a Greek dentist and Invisalign specialist, open until 8pm Monday to Saturday.

At Forty Hall, the Jacobean manor at the top of Enfield, Sunday’s farmers market comes with a beginner street photography workshop from 12pm to 2pm on shooting candid market scenes, for ages 16 and up. A few minutes away the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport opens from 10am to 4pm for the Harley Owners Group display. The grounds at Forty Hall are free to wander and the lake is lovely in October light.
Getting there: Enfield Town station, then the 191 bus, or drive and use the car park. Whitewebbs is closest to Crews Hill station.

End the weekend gently. Keats House, the white Regency villa where the poet wrote his great odes, hosts a free hour of readings of famous travel poems from 2.15pm to 3.15pm, marking 300 years since Gulliver’s Travels. It sits on the edge of Hampstead Heath, so walk up to Parliament Hill before or after, with the whole city laid out below you.
Getting there: Hampstead Heath Overground is a five minute walk, or 15 minutes downhill from Hampstead on the Northern line.
The Royal Parks Half Marathon closes roads around Hyde Park on Sunday morning, so if you drive into town from the north, leave it until the afternoon. And to finish your North London Greek weekend with a party, Greek List hosts a Greek brunch party with unlimited food, cocktails and DJ Pascal at The Life Goddess in Bloomsbury on Sunday evening, guestlist only, see the event page.
