Revisiting: Fernweh, or Nostalgia for Unknown Lands brings 17 works by 15 international artists from the Irene Y. Panagopoulos Collection to the Hellenic Centre.
The German word Fernweh means a longing for places you have never been. The exhibition uses it to look at Greece as both a real place and an imagined one, shaped by mythology, travel and memory.
The artists include Marc Chagall, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, Sean Scully, Martin Parr, Thomas Struth, Elizabeth Peyton, Lynda Benglis, Kader Attia and the Greek artist Vlassis Caniaris.
The exhibition is curated by Katerina Hadji, Head of Collection. On Friday 16 October there is a free breakfast conversation with the collector Irene Y. Panagopoulos (booking required).
Entry is free, and it runs alongside the Giorgos Ioannou exhibition in the same building, so you can see both in one visit.
