Athens-based artist Theo Triantafyllidis is the winner of the Frieze London Artist Award 2026, and his new commission is one of the highlights of this year’s fair.
The work, Feral Metaverse (Spider), is a giant spider sculpture that visitors can climb. It connects to the artist’s ongoing multiplayer online game, so people in the physical space and players online become part of the same piece.
Triantafyllidis works with game engines, simulation and performance, and the new work was made with his team in Athens. The award is supported this year by Google Arts & Culture, with Forma as co-commissioner.
It is a big moment for a Greek artist at one of the most important contemporary art fairs in the world.
