Date: Sunday, 13 December 2026
Venue: Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
The Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission heads to Oxford for Aphrodite to Venus – The Making of a Goddess, a free Sunday afternoon at the Ashmolean Museum.
The afternoon opens with a lecture by Dr Anja Ulbrich, the Ashmolean’s A.G. Leventis Curator of the Cypriot Collection, on how the worship of Aphrodite took shape on Cyprus and how she later became Venus, one of the best-known figures of the Greek and Roman world.
It continues with a screening of episodes from the Myths of Cyprus series directed by Markos Kassinos, followed by time to explore the museum’s exhibition Aphrodite: The Making of a Goddess.
The event is part of A Cyprus Weekend in Oxford, run with NEPOMAK UK and the Cypriot Educational Mission. Entry is free, but places must be booked in advance.
