Ioannis Kapodistrias was born in 1776 in Corfu and rose to become one of Europe’s most respected diplomats. Before returning to Greece, he served as Foreign Minister of Russia, playing a key role in shaping European politics during a turbulent era.
But his most important contribution came when he chose to leave behind his international career to support Greece during its War of Independence.

Despite his achievements, Kapodistrias faced strong opposition. His centralised style of governance clashed with local power structures, leading to political tension. In 1831, his life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated in Nafplio.
