The Garden Cinema screens John the Violent (Ιωάννης ο Βίαιος, 1973), the landmark film by Tonia Marketaki, one of the most important women directors in Greek cinema.
The story starts with a murder in Athens and then turns to the way the press builds a story around the man who confesses to it. More than fifty years on, it still feels very current.
The screening is part of the cinema’s Greek Salad strand and is introduced by Dr Tonia Kazakopoulou, film lecturer at the University of Reading.
The film is rated 18 and runs for about three hours. The screening is currently sold out, with a waiting list at the cinema.
