My whole journey with Mr Vasilikostas has been amazing, from my initial consultation through to surgery and post surgery follow up. He ensured I had all of the information I needed to enable me to make the decision to go ahead for surgery. He then talked me through everything in more depth so I knew exactly what to expect on the day. He has a wonderful bedside manner and supported me throughout my stay in hospital. I met Dr Vasilikostas through an NHS GP referral and opted to see him privately from the wonderful experience I had with him and also to avoid the NHS waiting times. Anyone managing obesity knows that when you walk into a room of a medical field, you have to be really prepared to advocate for yourself as you are expectation is that you won’t be taken seriously. This was not the case AT ALL with Dr Vasilikostas. As someone with PCOS who also has both insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance and had tried everything under the sun, was already on Metformin to manage the insulin resistance and semalglutide too, as well as diet and exercise, I knew the long term chance of success was to get surgery to support a hormone reset and to give me a chance at a better quality of life. After an uphill battle with others in the medical field, the relief when I spoke to Dr Vasilikostas, his understanding of my circumstances, his level of knowledge, his warmth was just so wonderful for the first few appointments I actually cried in relief because it was so validating to be listened to this much. It was so validating to be heard. Obesity is a chronic illness and it is clear that Dr Vasilikostas is passionate about this subject pouring his heart and soul into it and one of the reasons I decided to go private with him was independently reading his research papers and his wonderful contribution to the bariatric field. How much he is looking at factors that contribute to better health outcomes on surgery and how he discusses both his and his peer learnings with patients in such a layman’s and accessible way. He has an excellent team behind him and his private Secretary is such a warm and efficient person to deal with who really values speedy communication. I had fantastic care through out my pre-op, the operation went smoothly and I have definitely had a smooth recovery in comparison to many of the experiences I’ve read in the surgery forums. I have had such amazing support and the communication between being released to go home and the first follow-up appointment was so fantastic. I have already recommended him to quite a few people and I highly, highly recommend him to anyone who will read this. I couldn’t have chosen a better surgeon to support me through this journey.
