This will be an evening of sentimental, dramatic, and fun operatic arias all exemplary of the women in the opera at their finest.
Matina Tsaroucha and Sophia Sakellaridis Mangoura will share with you the power of the female voice, its transcendence, its magic.
Many believe opera to be a cultural field that objectifies and subjugates women, whereas Martina and Sophia as singers and women beg to differ. In this they will expose the peculiar situation when a given operatic plot conquers the female protagonist soprano and yet her voice shines brilliant in transgressive defiance. Her voice alone empowers her.
Matina Tsaroucha (soprano) is in her final year of undergraduate vocal studies, at the Guildhall school of Music and Drama, and next year will continue her studies at Royal College of music as a supported scholar in their master’s course for vocal studies.
Sophia Sakellaridis Mangoura is a lyric soprano, She is doing a PhD in Musicology at King’s College London.
Organised by The Hellenic Centre.
