Date: 8 October – 19 November 2026
Venue: The Hellenic Centre, Marylebone, London
A Different Kind of Pop: Giorgos Ioannou’s Works 1960s–1970s is the first significant exhibition in the UK of the Greek Pop artist Giorgos Ioannou (1926–2017).
The exhibition marks the centenary of his birth and focuses on the work he made in the 1960s and 1970s, a period that includes the years of the military junta (1967–1974).
Ioannou used the bright, flat language of Pop Art, but mixed it with personal memory and quiet political comment. It is Pop Art seen through a Greek lens, very different from its American or British versions.
The show is curated by Sofia Karamani and Dr Nayia Yiakoumaki, with Alpha Bank London as lead sponsor and support from the Onassis Foundation.
On Thursday 15 October there is a free breakfast talk linked to the exhibition, with the artist’s son Dimitris Ioannou (booking required).
Entry to the exhibition is free.
