Dr George Goumalatsos | Consultant Gynaecologist & Laparoscopic Surgeon

Mr George Goumalatsos is a Consultant Gynaecologist, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon and Obstetrician at the North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust.  He is based at the Basingstoke Hospital site.

Mr Goumalatsos was born and raised in Greece.  He obtained his medical degree from the University of Patras, Greece. He served his year of rural service in Samos, Greece.  Following this, he undertook an internship in General Surgery at the Greek Air Force General Hospital in Athens.

In 2005 he started his specialty training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the London Deanery.  This involved rotating through a number of prestigious hospitals including King’s College and Guys and St’ Thomas Hospitals.  During the last two years of his training he worked at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.  There, as a member of the Endometriosis Centre he gained valuable experience in the management of endometriosis.

After completing his specialist training, he underwent a year of fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.  During that period he also obtained his Master of Science (MSc) degree in gynaecological endoscopy from the University of Surrey.

Mr Goumalatsos is the lead Consultant in Minimal Access Surgery and Endometriosis at Basingstoke Hospital.  He has introduced and regularly performs complex laparoscopic (keyhole) operations such as laparoscopic hysterectomies for big fibroid wombs, laparoscopic myomectomies (removals of fibroids), laparoscopic cystectomies and laparoscopic excisions of endometriosis. He has set up regular pelvic pain clinics and he also runs fortnightly menstrual disorder and outpatient hysteroscopy clinics.

​George enjoys photography, sailing in the Aegean waters and jet-skiing. He cannot resist a nice meal with good wine and good company. He lives in Hampshire with his wife Charlotte and their children.
