ROOTS, is a multi-stylistic music album inspired by Dimitris Soukaras. It covers a wide range of music that has flourished in Greece in the last century. From the jazz influenced, to the cinematic mood of the songs of Manos Hadjidakis and from there to the modern and avant-garde music, this new album proposes an alternative look at what we call classical music, today.
There will be a recital followed by a presentation and interview.
ROOTS was created and recorded in both London and Athens during the COVID-19 pandemic and was Soukaras’ way of exploring and expanding his artistic horizons during this challenging period. The Audentia Ensemble, the Australian mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean (described by the Guardian as an “irresistible sense of drama and musicality”), the American conductor Ryan Bair and the Greek quartet L’Anima have taken part in the recording.
