You’re in the right place! In this article we’ll go through some of the most frequently asked questions for Greek citizens (and citizens of any nationality) who would like to make the UK their new home!

• How can one move to the UK for work?

In order to move to the UK for work you need to first acquire what is called a ‘Sponsorship’. This means that you must have a job offer from your future employer AND that your future employer provides sponsorship to you. This means that they must be able to sponsor you so that you can come and work in the UK. Only employers who have a current Sponsor Licence can sponsor you.

Your job must be in one of the ‘eligible occupations’ for sponsorship. The vast majority of occupations are eligible, however, currently, occupations that aren’t considered ‘skilled’ are not eligible. For example, you are not able to acquire sponsorship to work as a sales assistant in a shop or as a waiter/waitress or barman/bar woman.

• What visa types are available? What visa will I need?

There are various work visa categories, however, the most usual is the ‘Skilled Worker’ visa. Each visa category has its own requirements.

In terms of the Skilled Worker visa, the basic requirements are as follows:

1. Sponsorship
2. Knowledge of English language
3. Financial requirements (although this criterion can often be met by the employer)
4. Other requirements, depending on the country you’ve been living. For applicants who have been living in the EEA, there are normally no additional requirements.

• How long does it take?

This will massively depend on how long it will take you and your employer to obtain the relevant documents/meet the requirements. Providing that you have everything (the ‘Certificate of Sponsorship’ or CoS from your Employer and your English language proof – and anything additional from your end, if applicable) then the application doesn’t take long to be approved.

If you’re a Greek (or EEA) citizen, usually you do not need to visit any facility (Visa Application Centre) in-person in Greece or in your country of residence and the whole process can be completed online.

Depending on the service you use, from the time of the online application submission, your visa will be decided from 1 to 15 days.

• How much does it cost?

There are many costs involved in the visa application.

‘Disbursements and Government Costs’

Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) –  Paid by your Employer

£529 – one off

Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) – Paid by your Employer

£364 (if classed as ‘small’ organisation) – per year of sponsorship

£1000 (if classed as ‘medium or large’ organisation) – per year of sponsorship

Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) – Paid by you (however, most of the big companies/employers will usually cover this)

£1035 per year of sponsorship

Visa Application fee – Paid by you (however, most of the big companies/employers will usually cover this)

This depends on a few things, but for most people this would be:

£769 (for sponsorship up to 3 years)

£1519 (for sponsorship for more than 3 years)

English language test, if you need to take one.

These would usually be between £150 and £250.

 Other costs, if applicable.

For example Visa Application Centre fees (wouldn’t normally exceed £100, if any), or other costs for medical tests - not required if you’ve been living in the EEA or other countries that are exempt.

English and 'other costs' are also paid by you, however, many big employers/companies would usually cover those too.

Example of total costs for a typical Skilled Worker visa for 5 years Sponsorship with a medium/large organisation.

Please note: if you use one of the ‘fast-track services’, there will be an additional costs of £500 (Priority) or £1000 ( Super Priority).

The Standard Service takes 15 days, the Priority Service 5 days and the Super Priority Service 24 hours for your visa to be decided.

‘Legal fees’

If your employer does not offer immigration advice through a separate company and ask you to complete/organise the whole application yourself, you may want to seek legal advice from a regulated person (Immigration Adviser, Solicitor etc). Their fees vary and there are big differences between professionals.

Σε αυτό το άρθρο θα δούμε μερικές από τις πιο συχνές ερωτήσεις για Έλληνες πολίτες (και πολίτες οποιασδήποτε εθνικότητας) που επιθυμούν να κάνουν το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο το νέο τους σπίτι!

Πώς μπορεί κάποιος να μετακομίσει στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο για εργασία;

Για να μετακομίσετε στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο για εργασία, θα πρέπει πρώτα να αποκτήσετε αυτό που ονομάζεται «Χορηγία» (Sponsorship). Αυτό σημαίνει ότι πρέπει να έχετε μια προσφορά εργασίας από τον μελλοντικό σας εργοδότη και ότι ο εργοδότης σας μπορεί να σας χορηγήσει. Δηλαδή, πρέπει να διαθέτει σχετική άδεια (Sponsor Licence) ώστε να μπορεί να σας φέρει στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο.

Η θέση εργασίας σας πρέπει να είναι σε μια από τις «επιλέξιμες επαγγελματικές κατηγορίες» για χορηγία. Η μεγάλη πλειονότητα των επαγγελμάτων είναι επιλέξιμα. Ωστόσο, επαγγέλματα που δεν θεωρούνται «εξειδικευμένα» δεν είναι επιλέξιμα προς το παρόν. Για παράδειγμα, δεν μπορείτε να πάρετε χορηγία για εργασία ως πωλητής σε κατάστημα, σερβιτόρος/α ή μπάρμαν/μπάργουμαν.

Ποιοι τύποι βίζας είναι διαθέσιμοι; Ποια βίζα θα χρειαστώ;

Υπάρχουν διάφορες κατηγορίες επαγγελματικών βίζας. Η πιο συνήθης είναι η βίζα «Skilled Worker» (Εξειδικευμένου Εργαζομένου). Κάθε κατηγορία έχει τις δικές της προϋποθέσεις.

Για την Skilled Worker visa, οι βασικές προϋποθέσεις είναι:

• Χορηγία (Sponsorship)

• Γνώση της αγγλικής γλώσσας

• Οικονομικά κριτήρια (αν και αυτά συχνά καλύπτονται από τον εργοδότη)

• Άλλες προϋποθέσεις, ανάλογα με τη χώρα κατοικίας σας. Για άτομα που ζουν στον ΕΟΧ (Ευρωπαϊκό Οικονομικό Χώρο), συνήθως δεν υπάρχουν επιπλέον απαιτήσεις.

Πόσος χρόνος χρειάζεται;

Αυτό εξαρτάται σε μεγάλο βαθμό από το πόσο γρήγορα εσείς και ο εργοδότης σας θα συγκεντρώσετε τα απαραίτητα έγγραφα/θα πληροίτε τις προϋποθέσεις. Εφόσον έχετε όλα όσα απαιτούνται (το Πιστοποιητικό Χορηγίας - CoS, από τον εργοδότη σας, και απόδειξη γνώσης της αγγλικής – καθώς και οτιδήποτε επιπλέον, αν απαιτείται), τότε η έγκριση της αίτησης γίνεται σύντομα.

Αν είστε Έλληνας (ή πολίτης ΕΟΧ), συνήθως δεν χρειάζεται να επισκεφθείτε κάποιο Κέντρο Αιτήσεων Βίζας στη χώρα σας – όλη η διαδικασία γίνεται διαδικτυακά.

Ανάλογα με την υπηρεσία που θα επιλέξετε, από την ημέρα υποβολής της αίτησης η απόφαση για τη βίζα λαμβάνεται σε 1 έως 15 ημέρες.

Πόσο κοστίζει;

Υπάρχουν αρκετά κόστη που σχετίζονται με την αίτηση για βίζα:

«Κυβερνητικά Τέλη»

• Πιστοποιητικό Χορηγίας (CoS) – Πληρώνεται από τον εργοδότη σας
  £529 – εφάπαξ

• Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) – Πληρώνεται από τον εργοδότη σας
  £364 (για «μικρές» επιχειρήσεις) – ανά έτος χορηγίας
  £1000 (για «μεσαίες/μεγάλες» επιχειρήσεις) – ανά έτος χορηγίας

• Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) – Πληρώνεται από εσάς
  (Συχνά όμως καλύπτεται από τον εργοδότη)
  £1035 ανά έτος χορηγίας

• Τέλος αίτησης βίζας – Πληρώνεται από εσάς
  (Συχνά καλύπτεται από μεγάλες εταιρείες)
  £769 (για έως 3 χρόνια)
  £1519 (για πάνω από 3 χρόνια)

• Απόδειξη γνώσης αγγλικών, εάν απαιτείται: £150 – £250

• Άλλα έξοδα, αν ισχύουν (π.χ. Κέντρα Αιτήσεων ή ιατρικές εξετάσεις – συνήθως όχι απαραίτητα για κατοίκους ΕΟΧ).

Τα παραπάνω έξοδα πληρώνονται από εσάς, αλλά πολλοί μεγάλοι εργοδότες καλύπτουν μέρος ή και όλα.

Παράδειγμα συνολικού κόστους για βίζα Skilled Worker για 5 χρόνια με μεσαία/μεγάλη εταιρεία:

• CoS: £529

• ISC: £5000

• IHS: £5175

• Visa: £1519

• Άλλα κόστη (π.χ. αγγλικά): £300

Σύνολο: £12,523

Σημείωση:

Αν επιλέξετε μία από τις υπηρεσίες «γρήγορης επεξεργασίας» υπάρχει επιπλέον κόστος:

• £500 για την «Priority» υπηρεσία (5 ημέρες)

• £1000 για την «Super Priority» υπηρεσία (24 ώρες)

Η Standard υπηρεσία χρειάζεται περίπου 15 ημέρες.

«Νομικές Αμοιβές»

Αν ο εργοδότης σας δεν παρέχει νομική υποστήριξη μέσω εξωτερικής εταιρείας και σας ζητήσει να οργανώσετε την αίτηση μόνοι σας, ίσως θελήσετε να συμβουλευτείτε επαγγελματία (Σύμβουλο Μετανάστευσης, Δικηγόρο κ.λπ.). Οι αμοιβές διαφέρουν σημαντικά ανά επαγγελματία.
